It was almost inevitable that I would end up working in museums…I have degrees in Zoology and Palaeobiology, and limited social skills. What else was I going to do? I began my career volunteering in the Natural History departments at Bristol Museum, and quickly fell in love. Almost six years later, I’m now working as a Documentation/Collections Assistant at the Horniman Museum in London, while also studying for a distance learning MA in Museum Studies. I currently work with the Horniman’s Anthroplogy collections, which has been a fascinating learning experience for a natural historian. I have gained new collections care skills, and I’ve found that my background in natural science actually comes in quite handy, as we have many objects made of animal materials within the Anthropology collections.
Museums are my passion. I have a huge love of objects, any objects, and one of my favourite parts of my job is finding amazing things and sharing them with people. Every day at work is a new discovery!
Again, a disclaimer: while I write about my work on this blog, the opinions expressed here are entirely my own, and do not reflect the views of my employer.
Hello!
Random question: are you on Twitter? Thanks for adding my blog in your links section. I’ve had some click-throughs from here. Great blog too!
Yes, but I don’t really do much with Twitter…I kinda don’t see the point of it, but joined so I could follow a few bands that use it to advertise shows!
Thanks for liking my blog, and twittering it! Hope you’re enjoying your traineeship – I almost applied, but missed the deadline.
